How do I add and configure products on my form?

Our [Product](https://paperform.com/widgets/product/) Field is used to capture the purchase of products and can be configured so that different products can be purchased, and at different quantities.

To add the Products field to your form, you can follow two different approaches:

## Adding the question

### Using slash commands

 1. Select a blank line in the editor where you'd like to add the Products Field.
 2. Type "/product" or "/products" and select "Products" from the list.
 3. Continue to the "Setting up the products" section below.

### Without using slash commands

 1. Select a blank line in the editor where you'd like to add the Products Field.
 2. Click "Add Questions" on the elements toolbar towards the left, or by clicking "Add Question" at the end of a question group and selecting "Products" for the question's type.
 3. Continue to the "Setting up the products" section below.

## Setting up the products

 1. Click on the Product field to view its configuration panel.

Set its configuration options as desired ( *e.g.* if you want to allow customers to buy more than one product at a time).

 Give each product a name, SKU, price, and optionally, set images, stock availability, and minimum and maximum purchase quantities.

> Note: Every product must have a unique Stock Keeping Unit (SKU). This is what is used to track which specific products have been sold. Paperform automatically generates this, but you can change it if you would like.
 3. Back on the configuration side panel, select "Choose Layout" to choose your preferred product layout, and optionally hide product prices.

### Organizing Products

You can organize products on your form by using the up/down arrows displayed in the "Manage Products" window.

## Gotchas

 - It is possible to create products with negative prices; however, the form total price can never fall below 0 and so negative prices may be ignored.
 - If you'd like to create a discount selection within your form, it is best to use [Custom Pricing Rules.](https://paperform.com/help/articles/custom-pricing-rules/)
 - Products can be downloaded/exported using [the "Export" button](https://paperform.com/help/articles/how-do-i-export-products/) provided.
 - When exporting a **default PDF summary** (instead of a Custom PDF), the product information shown will reflect the current iteration of your live form.
 - Changing product price will also change previously submitted Default PDF summaries since they are generated on-demand as required, when a download is requested.
 - We recommend using [Custom PDFs](https://paperform.com/help/articles/custom-pdfs/) for creating historic records of products purchased.
