Airtable Forms vs Fillout: Which Is Better in 2026?
Airtable Forms is a single-page intake widget attached to a database and billed per editor, from $20 each per month. Fillout is a full form builder with multi-page logic, Stripe payments and unlimited seats, billed per submission from $15 per month. Fillout wins on form building; Airtable wins on data structure and compliance depth.
These two products are often used together, which makes the head-to-head unusual. Fillout built one of the strongest Airtable integrations on the market and publishes blog posts arguing that Airtable's own form view is too limited, so the comparison is partly a vendor arguing with the platform it plugs into. The honest version: Airtable Forms exists because the base exists, and it has never been given the features of a real form builder. Fillout is a real form builder that treats your Airtable base as a destination rather than a home.
The pricing models point in opposite directions, and that is the decision most teams actually make. Airtable meters people. Fillout meters responses. Whichever number is growing faster in your business is the one that will set your invoice.
Quick Verdict
Choose Airtable Forms if:
- Your team already pays for Airtable and the form is internal intake
- One or two people edit and everybody else only submits
- Submissions need to arrive as linked records with views and rollups
- Your security review asks for ISO 27001 or HIPAA on Enterprise Scale
- The form is short, free of payments and unlikely to change
Choose Fillout if:
- The form needs multiple pages, branching or calculations
- You need to take Stripe payments or collect a signature
- Your team is large and per-editor pricing is getting painful
- You want to update existing Airtable records, not only create them
- Monthly volume is predictable and sits under the tier caps
The Numbers That Decide It
Pricing
Airtable is $24 per editor per month, or $20 billed annually, on Team and $54, or $45 annually, on Business; forms are included at every tier. Fillout is $19/month ($15 annually) for Starter at 2,000 submissions, $49 ($40) for Pro at 5,000, and $89 ($75) for Business with unlimited submissions and unlimited seats throughout.
Integrations and API
Fillout offers 50+ native integrations plus Zapier, Make, webhooks and a REST API on the free plan. Airtable Forms has no integrations of its own: data lands in the base, and anything further runs through Airtable automations, Zapier or the Airtable REST API, with webhook automations on Team and above.
Conditional logic
Fillout includes conditional logic, branching and calculations on the free plan. Airtable Forms includes conditional field visibility on all plans, but conditional groups require Business at $45 per editor per month, and there is no multi-page branching or scoring at any price.
Payments
Fillout supports 1 payment processor: Stripe, with products, subscriptions and discount codes. Airtable Forms supports 0. There is no payment field in the Airtable form view and no gateway behind it.
Compliance
Airtable is SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, ISO 27701, GDPR, CCPA and TX-RAMP Level 2 compliant, with HIPAA available on Enterprise Scale and data residency in the EU and Australia. Fillout is SOC 2 Type 2 and GDPR compliant, is not HIPAA compliant, and does not claim ISO 27001; enterprise customers choose a hosting region from the USA, EU, UK, Australia or Canada.
Feature Comparison
The gap here is not close, and it is not really a fair fight: one of these products is a view type inside a database and the other is a dedicated form platform. Read the table for where Airtable's platform features compensate, not for whether the form view competes.

Where Airtable Forms Wins
The submission is already a structured record
Every Airtable submission arrives as a row in a relational base, with linked records, rollups, formulas and every view type available the moment it lands. Fillout can push a submission into Airtable, and it does that well, but there is a mapping to maintain and a sync that can fail. When the form view belongs to the table, there is nothing between the two to break. For operations teams whose real product is the base rather than the form, that matters more than any builder feature.
People who only submit cost nothing
Airtable bills for editors, not respondents or read-only collaborators, and it sets no cap on how many times a form can be filled in. A single Team editor at $20 per month billed annually can publish a form that collects tens of thousands of responses, subject only to the 50,000-record cap on the base. Fillout would put that volume on the $75 Business tier. If your organisation is one operations lead publishing intake forms to a large population, Airtable's model is the cheaper shape.
A compliance answer Fillout does not have
Airtable's certificate list runs several items longer: ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 alongside SOC 2 Type 2, TX-RAMP Level 2 for Texas public sector work, enterprise key management, audit logs and HIPAA on the Enterprise Scale plan. Fillout is SOC 2 Type 2 and GDPR compliant and is not HIPAA compliant, which rules it out for protected health information regardless of how good the builder is.
Scale and permanence
Airtable has been around since 2012 and is used by more than 500,000 organisations. Fillout was founded in 2022 and now trades as Fillout by Zite, with its help docs, security pages, changelog and AI credit pool all moved to the parent platform. That is not a reason to avoid it, but a five-year platform bet on a seed-stage company mid-rebrand is a different risk profile than a bet on Airtable.
Where Fillout Wins
It is an actual form builder
Fillout ships 50+ question types, multi-page forms, branching logic, calculations, scoring, answer piping, save and resume, and auto-close by date or submission count, all on the free plan. Airtable Forms has one page, one visibility rule per field, no piping, no scoring and no resume. Anyone who has tried to run a grant application or a multi-stage intake through the Airtable form view has hit this wall within an hour.
Payments, scheduling and signatures without another vendor
Fillout collects Stripe payments with products, subscriptions, discount codes and calculation-driven pricing, books time through Calendly, Cal.com or Google Calendar, and captures e-signatures, all from the Starter tier at $15 per month billed annually. Airtable does none of the three from a form. Matching Fillout's Starter plan on Airtable means adding a checkout tool and a signing tool alongside the base.
Seats stop being a budget line
Every Fillout tier, including the free one, carries unlimited team members. Airtable prices six Business editors at $270 per month billed annually, and none of that spend makes the form better. Where a team has grown faster than its form volume, this single difference tends to settle the decision.
It writes back to Airtable better than Airtable's form does
Fillout's Airtable integration can update existing records rather than only creating them, which unlocks second-stage intake: a status update, an approval, a follow-up questionnaire attached to a record that already exists. The native form view cannot do this at all. Teams that keep Airtable and add Fillout are usually buying exactly this.
An AI agent inside the editor
Fillout's Form Agent is a chat assistant in the builder that adds and edits fields, pages and text, sets up page logic, writes calculations and edits the theme. Airtable has poured AI into the platform (app building, agents, per-seat credits) and none of it has reached the form view, where a form is still generated mechanically from the table's columns. Fillout's agent runs on a shared Zite credit allowance and stops when the credits do, which is worth knowing before you rely on it.
Where Airtable Forms Falls Short
- Single page, always: no multi-step forms, no page-level branching, no scoring, no save and resume.
- No payments: not one gateway, so any form that takes money needs a second product.
- No signatures: there is no signature field in the form view.
- Calculated fields stay hidden: formula, lookup and rollup fields cannot appear in a form, so the respondent never sees the number.
- Logic priced by headcount: conditional groups require Business at $45 per editor per month.
- No form analytics: no drop-off tracking, no partial submissions, no conversion data; a view only shows people who finished.
- No templates and thin design control: a cover image, a logo and colours, with branding removal on Business.
- Record caps: 1,000 per base on Free, 50,000 on Team, 125,000 on Business.
- No CAPTCHA: the community workaround is a honeypot field.
Where Fillout Falls Short
- Submissions are metered: 2,000 on Starter and 5,000 on Pro, and clearing 5,000 means an 87% jump to Business or bulk submission packs at an unpublished price.
- Stripe only: no PayPal, Square or Braintree, so the processor is chosen for you.
- Analytics sit on Business: conversion tracking, partial submissions and drop-off data all require the $75 tier, which is also the tier that lifts the response cap.
- Lead-gen features are an add-on: abandonment recovery, lead enrichment, routing, email validation and address autocomplete come in the $100/month Conversion Kit rather than any plan.
- No HIPAA and no ISO 27001: SOC 2 Type 2 and GDPR are the whole list.
- Thin review history: 30 G2 reviews at 4.6, four Capterra reviews at 4.0, and a Trustpilot score that has slipped to 3.5 across 48 reviews.
- Split identity: the product is now Fillout by Zite, with credits, docs and the top $250/month Team bundle belonging to the parent platform.
- Not a database: if you want views, links and rollups you are still buying Airtable as well.
Pricing Comparison
Airtable's headline number is per editor and Fillout's is per account, so the two price lists are not directly comparable until you fix your team size and your monthly volume. Both meter something that tends to grow.
| Tier | Airtable (includes Forms) | Fillout | What actually differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 1,000 records/base, 5 editors | 1,000 submissions/mo, unlimited seats | Airtable caps stored rows; Fillout caps monthly responses |
| Entry | Team: $20/editor/mo annually, 50,000 records | Starter: $15/mo annually, 2,000 submissions | Fillout adds payments, scheduling and signatures here |
| Mid | Business: $45/editor/mo annually, SSO, branding | Pro: $40/mo annually, 5,000 submissions | Airtable's price multiplies by headcount; Fillout's does not |
| Upper | Enterprise Scale: custom, HIPAA, data residency | Business: $75/mo annually, unlimited submissions, analytics | Only Airtable offers HIPAA, and only via a sales call |

What Users Say
Airtable's ratings are strong and voluminous, but they describe the platform rather than the form view; the form-specific feedback across reviews and independent write-ups is consistent that the builder is too basic, with Free Survey Makers reaching the same conclusion in its April 2026 review. Airtable's Trustpilot score of 2.0 across 152 reviews is a sharp outlier and reads as billing and cancellation complaints rather than product quality. Fillout's sample is much smaller and has softened over the year, from 4.6 on G2 across 30 reviews to 3.5 on Trustpilot across 48, with recent complaints about automated systems flagging accounts. Filip Konecny's independent review weighs whether the paid tiers earn their price and lands on a qualified yes.
Consider Paperform
The tradeoff between these two is a choice of meter: pay more as your team grows, or pay more as your forms succeed. Paperform declines both. Submissions and seats are unlimited on paid plans within fair use, so neither hiring nor a campaign that performs well moves the invoice. Pro is $59/month, or $49 billed annually; Business is $149/month, or $124 annually, and adds SSO, 10 workspaces and the Business API.
It also closes the two gaps this matchup leaves open on either side. Where Airtable hides its formulas until after the record lands, Paperform's calculations are Excel-style and run live in front of the respondent, driving which questions and pages appear, what the conditional email says, what gets pushed to integrations and what shows on the success page. Where Fillout ties every order to Stripe, Paperform takes payments through Stripe, PayPal, Square, Braintree and Google Pay, with subscriptions, coupons, tax and refunds. One subscription covers three products: Paperform for forms, Papersign for eSignatures at 25 signed documents a month on Pro and 100 on Business, and Stepper for workflow automation. There is no Conversion Kit to add and no parent platform's credit pool to reason about.
State the price difference plainly: Fillout starts at $15 a month and a single Airtable editor starts at $20, both below Paperform's $49 annual entry, and Paperform has no cheaper paid tier. Airtable also beats Paperform on compliance breadth, since Paperform is SOC 2 Type II, GDPR and CCPA compliant but is not HIPAA compliant and signs no BAAs. Paperform is aimed at the operator running real multi-step workflows across 4000+ integrations and 30,000+ templates, not the one-off intake form. It has been shipping since 2016, bootstrapped and profitable, and the trial is seven days with no card. The Verdict
Fillout is the better form builder, and it is not close. Multi-page logic, calculations, payments, scheduling, signatures and 50+ integrations against a single-page field list. If the thing you are buying is a form, buy Fillout, and expect the bill to move when volume clears 5,000 responses a month.
Airtable wins when the form is the least important part. A base that already runs your operations, submissions that must be linked records, respondents who cost nothing, and a compliance list that includes ISO 27001 and HIPAA on Enterprise Scale. The form view is adequate for short internal intake and will frustrate anyone asking more of it.
Plenty of teams run both, and that is a defensible answer rather than a failure of nerve. It is also two vendors, two renewal dates and one more integration for you to own when it breaks. Teams who would rather consolidate than stitch, and who do not want a meter on either headcount or success, should look at Paperform before committing to the pair.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Fillout write back into an existing Airtable record, or only create new ones?
Fillout's Airtable integration can update existing records as well as create them, which is the main reason Airtable teams reach for it. Airtable Forms only ever creates a new record in the table the form belongs to. If your intake flow is a second-stage update to a record that already exists, such as a status change or an approval, Fillout can do it natively and the Airtable form view cannot.
Can Airtable Forms take payments if I connect Stripe somewhere in the base?
No. Airtable Forms has no payment field and no payment gateway of any kind, and an automation firing after the record lands does not help you charge a respondent during the submission. Fillout collects payments through Stripe with products, subscriptions, discount codes and calculation-driven pricing. Between these two, Fillout is the only one that can take money.
Which one is cheaper for a team of six?
It depends on who edits. Airtable charges per editor: six Team editors are $120/month billed annually and six Business editors are $270/month. Fillout gives unlimited seats on every tier, so six people cost the same as one, and the meter runs on submissions instead: 2,000/month on Starter at $15, 5,000/month on Pro at $40, unlimited on Business at $75. A six-person team doing modest volume pays far less on Fillout; a two-person team collecting 40,000 responses may prefer Airtable's editor-only billing.
Is Airtable Forms or Fillout the safer choice for regulated data?
Airtable, on paper. Airtable holds SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, ISO 27701, GDPR, CCPA and TX-RAMP Level 2, with HIPAA available on the Enterprise Scale plan. Fillout holds SOC 2 Type 2 and GDPR, and is not HIPAA compliant. Fillout counters with deployment regions across the USA, EU, UK, Australia and Canada, plus an enterprise option to keep submissions only in external storage.
Does either tool build a multi-page form?
Only Fillout. Every Airtable form is a single page with no multi-step flow, and while conditional field visibility now works on all Airtable plans, conditional groups require Business at $45 per editor per month and there is still no page-level branching. Fillout ships multi-page forms, branching logic, answer piping, calculations and save-and-resume on its free tier.
Can I keep Airtable as the database and use Fillout as the front end?
Yes, and it is the most common setup of the two. Fillout is built to sit in front of Airtable bases, so respondents get multi-page logic, payments and scheduling while the data still lands in the base your team already works in. The trade is two subscriptions and two support queues instead of one, and Airtable's per-editor bill does not shrink because the form moved.
